(Thai Milk Tea - not for the faintsugar hearted ^-^)
In line with my recent Bangkok trip postings, I thought it would be great to introduce one of my fave Thai eateries =)
Ghin Khao first appeared in our sights about 2 years ago, and not much has been written about it... I have tried to compile a list of pictures.. but Surprise, Surprise... Little Miss Perfect, did NOT get a picture of the store front =P
Som Tam with Deep Fried Soft Shell Crab
Thai Flat Rice Noodle with Pork
Stir-fried pork with Chinese Brocolli and Rice
One of their signature dishes (it being featured as a picture on their menu!) - Chiang Mai Noodles (my fave dish there)
Part of their new (As in from Jan 2010) range of dishes, they now have Boat noodles... which comes served in fancy boat like bowls...
Boat Noodle with Mince Pork, Pork Balls and Lime
Boat Noodle with Chicken and Chicken Balls
Boat Noodles with Pork, Blood, Lime and chilli
The Boy, who ordered the above mistakenly (the waiter took the wrong order), would not even let me try this dish and slurp the whole thing up!!! The indignity... apparently it was so tasty... HE WHO Does NOT like odd weird Asian food such as BLOOD... DID NOT let me try...
Goes to show how good it was =)
We've also tried all of their desserts, but I can't find any pictures! Shocking, I know... but I do highly recommend Ghin Khao... it's not one of the cheapest places, but it comes pretty near to authenticity =)
Overall Food Rating: 8.5/10
Restaurant ambiance: 7/10 (It can get very very cramped. They also cater upstairs on the 1st floor, but I have never been up there)
Value for money: 8/10
Address:
242 Swanston Street
Melbourne 3000
Tel: 039663 3345

I do find the food has gone down hill a little and I really hate the oversized menu lol. Great Bkk posts!
ReplyDeleteMmmm... I ate here with my Thai friend :). I asked her to show me what real Thai food was like, and she went through a few dishes showing me the slight differences and what was good, etc.

What they still do very well tho, is their Pad Thai!! It's still one of the better one's that I can find here =)
