Supanova 2010

Anyways, so last week, the Boy and I went for the annual Supanova fest... we got there a bit late on Saturday as we had to service the car in the morning, so went we got there, there was a long ling to get in... to mention the car parks in Flemington Racecourse was filling up fast as well!



Whilst lining up, I was happily snapping away, and she showed up!



She was moving to fast, but it was an awesome costume!



Every year, people dress up (not us, of course... we draw a line somewhere.. lols)...

And they participate in the ANIME/Costume stage hosted by MADMAN...



This year, costumes were even more precise and doubled in number as oppose to last year...

Even baby Superman came to join in the fun!



There were a lot of characters I didn't know, but took anyway, because their effort in dressing up was just amazing... (Majority of these people are school or uni students, and they work on a budget!)



There were a few "Soul Eaters" around.. I started and stopped watching that anime only because I have no time left...

Kakashi sensei! From Naruto... this is one of the closest impressions I've ever seen actually... well done!

As usual, there was a throng of Naruto fans congregating together...

Even Luffy, from my fave anime "One Piece" showed up... this anime is the only one I still watch after all these years.. amazingly funny... I thought the Boy would have made a good Luffy and wanted to buy the costume for him.. he just laughed at me and then glared... =(

Batman took a break from Gotham and chilled with the SuperMario brothers (I missed that picture, it was really funny... he was being molested by the Mario brothers...)

All in all, it was fun... but I would not pay $25 per person to enter... UNLESS... you were lining up to see a celebrity like we did last year for Hayden Pannietierre... or you had a heap of comics or books to be signed by the respective artists and authors...

Or of course, came dressed in a costume...

This year's line up of celebs, artists, authors was a bit dissapointing... this year, I would have to say, the biggest star (which we didn't bother with, but had a long long long line) was Karl Urban...he was Eomer in the LOTR movies, and more recently, Dr. Leonard McCoy in Star Trek



And the not so famous (Twi-harders will kill me)... Chaske Spencer... who play's Sam in the Twilight series... and if you don't know who is Chaske Spencer from the picture below, then I rest my case...

Deja Vu @ Laksa King

Ahhh... It has been such a glorious long weekend.

Today we woke up to continue with our Flemington warehouse sale... and I much prefer the Saturday Sales.. seems the stuff I wanted had lost all their sizes.

Dying from hunger, the Boy made a sudden turn to park next to Laksa King! I was ecstatic. It was cold and I was in need of home style food and hot soupy stuff.

The last time we came here was with the tinymouse after cheering the cheerleader.

So I was truly happy. I was getting extremely spoiled this weekend.

I was trying to catch a picture of one of the chef's measuring with an old school measurement "thingy". The type I use to see old Chinese herbalist use in old "Medicine Halls"... with metal plates, a wooden stick and strings.

I had Assam Laksa... I found it a bit too thick ... that can be a good thing, meaning that there was a lot of fish and garnishing. I was happy the provided me with more mint leaves upon request without a frown :)



The Boy had "Roast" chicken with Nasi Kunyit (Tumeric Rice). Somehow the chicken wasn't roasted, and was deep fried!

Extremely overcooked, but I was munching on his chicken bones happily. Poor boy had an aching jaw at the end of the meal.



Maybe it was because they had to work on the Queen's Birthday, but the quality wasn't what I expected given the last round I had there. And they didn't have their famed Fish Head Laksa either.

I'd probably give them a 6 out of 10 based on this round.

The Boy then had a sudden inspiration (I blame the roasted but not roasted chicken) to go and buy some plants to "revive" our garden.

So we drove all the way to Chadstone Power House (Across from the shopping centre, which has Harvey Norman, Officeworks and Flower Power), and found no decent plants. Although even the plants were on discount!

So instead of going straight home, the Boy allowed (albeit with forbearance) me to drive around for maybe 45 minutes in and around Oakleigh and home!!!

Patience is so not his virtue when it comes to me driving *sigh*

Magik Journey & Laksa King

Because Supanova was so fun and I still have pictures to post up, including what we had for dinner... I can't be bothered blogging. It's too beautiful a day but I still love you!!

Went to have dinner as we hadn't eaten the whole day and my friend, Ms Tinymouse was about to complain that I'd be ditching her over the Boy's grumpiness again, so we decided, since, we were on that side of town anyway, we'd venture to Laksa King.

It's on Racecourse Road, and it's very near Newmarket Station. After nearly 7 years in Melbourne, I can't believe I finally made it down to Laksa King. Everyone always exclaims in such shock (and sometimes horror) that I the great Foodie, had not been there (and it's mostly you, Melbourne Uni/RMIT/VU students, MEH!).

Food I would rate 7 out of 10 for authenticity. A bit too much santan and not spicy at all. Oh well, one can't complain.



This was their version of Penang Har Mee... apparently it was good. I forgot to ask to try the soup...



This was interesting. Ms Tinymouse ordered Fish Head Curry Laksa... looked really good too... I love Fish Head but I opted for a safer dish..


This was my Chicken Curry Laksa. Had mint leaves chopped up finely too and a big slice of eggplant/brinjal/aubergine (whatever). Very interesting. Missing out on beansprouts... But very similar to Nyonya laksa style...(with the mint leaves, not may people put mint leaves into the laksa's anymore *sigh*)



And because I paid so much money for this picture, I'm going to milk it for all it's worth. Hayden and I!! Saving the whales one at a time. So sign up at the petition below and do your bit for Mother Nature!!!

She was really sweet, but fierce in the "cilipadi" way. Extremely tiny, she was shorter than me by a head! Although she has songs posted up on her Myspace page, apparently there are no plans to come up with an album. She told the Boy and I, they were making her sing songs that weren't her and trying to mold her into something she wasn't. She loves acting too much. And she said "THANK YOU!" for signing up for the whales petition.
