**WARNING** PORKAGRAPHY EXPLOSION **WARNING**
I must admit, that I'm probably the last foodie/blogger in Melbourne that has yet to blog/taste the astounding sandwiches at EARL Canteen...
So, last Friday... I was determined that I'd jump on the bandwagon and eat the most talked-about Roast Pork Belly Sandwich ever!
It took Funnyman and myself approximately 20 minutes to locate ... not because we were terrible in directions or were simply and completely utterly bad at reading addresses...
Nor was the fact that I knew exactly where EARL Canteen was, I'd walked pass it countless of times to and fro my old work place...
It's just that I stubbornly refused to admit that I got the building mistaken with 600 Bourke Place (another old workplace)... EMBARRASSING!
Anyway, back to my sandwich... it was one of the most expensive sandwiches I've ever paid for $13.50... however, I was not disappointed at all... and there is an explanation as to why EARL charges the way it does.
Service was exceptional (I did go slightly before 12pm to avoid the crazy mad lunch crowd that makes EARL go bananas)
The crispy pork skin? DIVINE! Tender and melt-in-your-mouth Otway pork belly...
Served with Apple, Cabbage and a Fennel coleslaw with wilted silverbeet in a freshly baked baguette...
I'd died and arrived at Piggy Heaven...
Absolutely porked out at the end of my meal...
No wonder EARL has got the Melbourne Foodie community abuzz, amazed and excited...!
Would I return? I might... to try the other sandwiches on their menu...especially their Duck Confit ($16)...
Often? No, it's a tad too expensive for a daily fare.
But it is a definite well worth splurge to have every now and then.

ReplyDeleteI only went to Earl Canteen two weeks ago. I also got the Pork Sandwich and it as delicious. But it is also a bit pricey for an everyday lunch, but definitely worth going occasionally.
ReplyDeleteSylvia: Lols.. well one of the last then =)
